Add askVela to JTL-Shop

Set up in 3 steps

  1. 01

    Download and upload the plugin

Download the ZIP, upload it under “Upload” in the JTL plugin manager, then install it under “Available”.

  2. 02

    Enter widget key and secret

Paste your askVela widget key; for order sync, store one shared secret on both sides.

  3. 03

    Connect your product export

Schedule an export in JTL's task planner and add its HTTPS address in askVela as a data source.

Plugin

Download the plugin

Early release. Install it in a test shop first and check one test order — please don't put it straight into a live shop.

JTL-Shop

Set it up step by step

  1. 01

    Download and verify

Download the ZIP and compare the SHA-256 above with your own (on Linux/macOS: shasum -a 256 askvela-jtl-0.1.0.zip). If they differ, do not install the file.

  2. 02

    Install via the plugin manager

JTL backend → Plugins → Plugin manager → “Upload” tab, then install it under “Available”. Alternatively upload the extracted folder via FTP to /plugins/ — info.xml must sit directly in /plugins/askvela_chat/.

  3. 03

    Enter your widget key

Copy the widget key from askVela under Settings → Installation and paste it into the plugin settings. An empty field disables the chat. Then clear the shop cache and check the button in your storefront.

  4. 04

    Turn on order sync (optional)

Generate a random secret of at least 32 characters and store the same value in the plugin and in askVela. Only then does the shop report new orders and answer order questions. Without the secret, both stay off.

  5. 05

    Connect the order lookup

On installation the plugin creates the address /askvela-order-lookup — deliberately hidden, it belongs in no navigation. Add it in askVela as the lookup address. The endpoint only answers signed requests, and only for one email address at a time.

  6. 06

    Backfill your order history

Under System → Cron, schedule the job “plugin:askvela_chat.backfill”. It reports the last 90 days of orders in batches and stops on its own. Old orders never trigger customer emails.

  7. 07

    Connect your products

Set up a product export with a stable ID per variant, parent ID, price, stock and categories — an existing Google Merchant export is a good start. Schedule it in the task planner and add the HTTPS address in askVela under Products → Data sources. A JTL-Wawi or Ameise CSV can be uploaded there instead.

  8. 08

    Disconnecting

Clear the widget key or uninstall the plugin, then clear the cache. Pause the catalogue source in askVela separately.

The assistant knows your range

Through the product export the bot knows articles, variants, prices and availability — and only recommends what is actually in stock.

Order questions without asking your team

For a confirmed email address the assistant answers order status straight from your shop. Signed requests only, that one address only.

Frequently asked questions

01Do I need the JTL Extension Store for this?

No. The archive uploads directly in the plugin manager and runs in full. The store would only add automatic updates later on.

02Does this work with JTL-Wawi too?

The plugin runs in JTL-Shop — JTL-Wawi has no plugin system. For your product catalogue you can upload a Wawi or Ameise CSV to askVela instead. Orders come from the shop.

03What data leaves my shop?

For an order: order number, email address, line items and total — the basis for revenue attribution and reorder reminders. For an order question: the orders belonging to exactly the address asked about, and only against a valid signature. The chat itself needs none of it.

04What does it cost?

askVela is a fair flat rate: unlimited agents and a fixed monthly AI allowance — no per-seat or per-ticket pricing. There is a free trial without a credit card.
